These devices use the properties of infrared rays to specifically identify different gases in the environment. NDIR technology offers high accuracy and sensitivity, which makes sensors based on NDIR particularly suitable for industrial, commercial and safety-critical applications.
The way it works is based on the absorption of infrared radiation by specific gases. Each gas absorbs infrared light at characteristic wavelengths. A detector measures the intensity of the emerging light and determines the absorption rate of the gas. This data is then compared with reference curves to accurately determine the type and concentration of the gas.
